23/11/2012 - The Miniwaste final conference took place in Rennes (France) on 20-21 November 2012, in the middle of the European Week for Waste Reduction. Gathering around 170 participants, mainly bio-waste experts and decision makers, the conference exhibited the results of the project and highlighted the main tools public authorities can use to address bio-waste prevention at a local or regional scale.

In Sweden, it is estimated that about a quarter of all food purchased never gets eaten, but is thrown away. This means unnecessary production and often long transportation, leading to a waste of raw material and energy.

13/09/2012 - In 2007, LIPOR, the authority responsible for the waste management of eight municipalities in the Porto region (Portugal), launched its Home Composting Project ‘Terra à Terra’. It aims to promote the reduction of organic waste in households, schools, institutions and companies in the area by distributing 10,000 composting bins. This way, up to 3,000 tonnes of bio-waste are estimated to be diverted from landfills and incineration per year.
