During the second half of 2011, several Pre-waste partners are to hold events on waste prevention, giving the opportunity to talk about the Pre-waste project, but also to address specific key issues related to waste reduction. Cluster Sofia: Home composting

At the territory of the European Union in acquis communautaire and according to Waste Framework Directives 75/442/EEC, 2006/12/EC and 2008/98/EC on waste management exists different strategies, programs and plans for management of biodegradable waste. Every country in the EU choose how to organize the system for biodegradable waste, so as to achieve the targets for preliminary treatment of waste in order to reduce the biodegradable waste going to landfills.

Cluster Marche Region: Nappies

Disposable nappies make up half of the household waste produced by families with a new baby. Each infant will have used on average 4000 to 6000 nappies by the age of two and a half, contributing over a tonne of waste to landfill. Disposable nappies take 500 years to fully decompose, releasing methane in the process.
