Organised by the European Commission in the context of the Eco-innovation Action Plan, the biannual European Forum on Eco-innovation brings together around 200 specialists from the worlds of research, industry, policy, finance, civil society and business. Over two days, participants present the latest developments in their fields and engage in discussions on a specific theme. This year, the focus will be circular economy in cities.

The 16th European Forum on Eco-innovation will be held in Hannover, Germany, on 7 and 8 April 2014. The Forum will examine enabling factors and challenges of transitioning to a circular economy model in an urban context. These will be presented through the lens of the stakeholders: city authorities, citizens and businesses. The event will also identify and showcase eco-innovations that can facilitate the shift to a circular economy and support cities in meeting the new targets for municipal waste treatment.

It will take place during the world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology, Hannover Messe (which will be held from 7 to 11 April 2014), and will be linked to the Metropolitan Solutions and IndustrialGreenTec fairs. It will include free access to the Hannover Messe and walking tours under different topics.

Learn more about the event

Waste prevention is one of the key element contributing to a circular economy, by preserving resources from being consumed and even putting them back in the loop, for instance in the form of compost or by promoting repair and reuse of products. Pre-waste developed several tools to help cities to improve their waste prevention strategies, in particular waste prevention good practices, a waste prevention monitoring web tool and a methodology on waste prevention strategies.
