During the second half of 2011, several Pre-waste partners are to hold events on waste prevention, giving the opportunity to talk about the Pre-waste project, but also to address specific key issues related to waste reduction. In particular, the Marche Region and WasteServ Malta Ltd will inscribe their event in larger frames or events in November, namely Ecomondo in Italy and the European Week for Waste Reduction.

Pre-waste project coordinator, the Marche Region (IT), will present Pre-waste within the 15th International Trade Fair of Material & Energy Recovery and Sustainable Development (Ecomondo) in Rimini, the biggest annual Italian expo on green technologies and new lifestyles, between 9 and 12 November 2011. The Marche Region is planning to organize a workshop/seminar targeting national and regional policymakers (national ministry and regional authorities), in order to present the initiatives and achievements of the Pre-waste project.

During this event, businesses from environmental and sustainable sectors will have the possibility to meet institutional stakeholders, trade associations, local/central governments, NGOs and all types of industries and goods manufacturers to discuss new models of economic growth driven by innovation, clean technologies and new approaches to urbanization and social contexts. There will be several meetings and round tables regarding the main topics of each of the four exhibit sectors (waste solutions, technology for contaminated sites, waste water and construction and demolition waste).

Last year’s edition of Ecomondo gathered over 65,000 visitors; 2.8% more compared to Ecomondo 2009. A quarter from them were from the environmental services sector. Ecomondo is meant to be a source of information and training on ecologically sustainable materials and energy efficiency for recycling and waste recovery operators. More on Ecomondo.

From 18 to 20 November 2011, WasteServ Malta Ltd (MT) will organize a weekend focused on food waste during the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). Together with an exhibition to be set by trainees participating in the ‘Care Creates Change’ EU project, the Pre-waste event will be held at the Valletta Mediterranean Conference Centre. These trainees are also going to be recognized for their efforts after completing a waste management course. Seminars about practical food waste reduction are going to be delivered by an expert who has created a booklet about food waste reduction. A stand about food waste reduction will also be set up and manned by these trainees who will be giving out the booklet as well as some recyclable goodies to promote food waste reduction to people visiting.

Earlier in the year, from 27 to 30 October, WasteServ is going to be present throughout a home and exhibitions fair where informative panels will be displayed about waste reduction at home, place of work and school.

Other Pre-waste partners will organize events this semester. In particular, Ilfov County (RO) will organize a conference on waste prevention on 14 October, as a side event of the waste prevention training to be held in Bucharest on 12 October. ORDIF (FR) will hold its event on 9 November in Paris, when Karlskrona (SE) will also organize it during the EWWR. Last semester, two partners’ events were held: a seminar and a film festival in March in Tampere (FI) and a regional waste prevention conference in June in Sofia (BG).
